ImageRichard Thomas was born in July 1920 at Middlesbrough. He joined the Royal Air Force in August 1940 serving as a Wireless Operator / Air Gunner in Coastal Command, taking part in the Battle of the Atlantic from 1941 to 1943. During this period he flew on a 1000 - bomber raid on Bremen and was a member of the crew which sank a U-boat off Iceland.

After the War he read Architecture at Cambridge University and the London Architectural Association, qualifying in 1951. Following upon 34 years in public and private practice, both in the U.K. and abroad, he retired to Satburn-by-the-Sea to rekindle an earlier passion for writing and has since published the following novels:
